One character I enjoyed in the play "Romeo and Juliet" by William Shakespear was Romeo. Romeo is a desperate lover who thinks the world just revolves around him and no one else. He meets his true love at a Capulet party and falls for her, forgetting about his girlfriend at the time, Rosalina. Romeo then continues to talk and kiss with Romeo and eventually marries but that comes to an end when the revenge between the Montague's and Capulet's kill them. One thing I enjoyed about Romeo was his impulsiveness and Romeo helped me understand the main idea of the consequences of revenge.

One aspect I enjoyed about Romeo was his impulsiveness. Romeo is a normal teen that reacts to anything without knowing more information about it. He never and thinks things through and when he does react straight away, the consequences turn out to bad. An example of his impulsiveness is his relationship with Juliet. When he first meets her, he thinks Juliet is the girl he has been waiting for. He then basically dumps his girlfriend at the time, Rosalina without telling her and moves onto to impressing Juliet. He continues to chat, talk and kiss Juliet everyday without realising that if both families found out, it could lead to greater conflict between them. He then eventually marries Juliet without bothering to tell anybody except Friar Laurance who wed's them. A quote to back up Romeo's impulsiveness is "Did my heart not love till now?" The example and quote show that he is very impulsive and never thinks things through. It also tells you that he is cowardly for not manning up to tell his parents and friends what's going on in his life.

One of the main messages coming out of the play is that nothing good comes from revenge. Revenge is shown throughout the whole play and as it goes on you realise no one benefits from it. The first example of the consequences of revenge is between Romeo and Tybalt. When Romeo turned up at the Capulet party, Tybalt did not like one bit of it and tried to get rid of him but failed. As the play progresses, Tybalt gets revenge on Romeo by killing his friend, Mercutio. He immediately reacts and kills Tybalt without thinking what's going to happen next. Tybalt's consequence is death and Romeo's consequence is that he lost a friend, banished from Verona and separated from Juliet. If Romeo actually thought about not killing Tybalt, it could of meant Romeo would have had never have to leave Verona and get the message to know what Juliet's plan was. A quote from Romeo killing Tybalt is "Fire-ey'd fury, he my conduct now." Romeo helped me understand the main idea because even though Romeo thought to get revenge on Tybalt was a good idea, the consequence was still bad.

The second example of the consequences of revenge is the death of Romeo and Juliet. The death is pretty much an outcome of the conflict between the Montague's and Capulet's that has been going on for years. In the prologue, it tells you that there's going to be conflict between the two families by saying "From ancient grudge break to new mutiny." Even the first scene shows members from each family fighting. This is significant because we will know what to expect and will know the meaning of the prologue as the play goes on. The true consequence here is that the stars of the play, Romeo and Juliet die from the feud. Romeo and Juliet both probably wished that they could be away from all that fighting and be in peace but that's not that easy since the conflict involves them. If Romeo didn't continue to react back to the Capulet's, Romeo and Juliet might have still been alive because it wouldn't cause them to know about who Romeo's love is and he wouldn't be a main target to the Capulet's. A quote from Friar Laurance about the conflict between the two families is "See what scourage is laid upon your hate." Romeo helped me understand this main idea because even if it seemed right to react back, it wasn't worth it because Juliet and him take their own lives. It's all not that bad because the two deaths make the Montague's and Capulet's realise that there feud caused the death so they make up in the end and promise not to hurt each other anymore.

Romeo was an enjoyable character because he was impulsive and he helped me understand the main idea of the consequences of revenge.
